British Paralympian table tennis star David Wetherill will be visiting Churchill Square Shopping Centre , to take part in an exciting Ping! Paralympic table tennis event.
David Wetherill, 22, became the surprise star of the London 2012 Paralympics when, despite needing a walking stick for support, he won a jaw-dropping point against his opponent by diving full-length to get the shot. During the Ping! Paralympic table tennis event, there will be exhibition matches and demonstrations from top table tennis stars or you can have a go yourself and take on one of the masters! Wheelchairs will also be provided for players to fully experience a day in the life of a Paralympian.
An Ambassador for table tennis and disability sport, David will be available to answer questions and inspire a new generation of players.
Tina Dallorzo, Centre Manager for Churchill Square explains, “We’re really looking forward to the Ping! Paralympic event. It will be a chance for members of the public meet one of the stars of the 2012 Paralympics and as well as raising awareness of table tennis and disability sport.”
Table Tennis has experienced a surge in popularity since the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. Thousands more are playing in schools and clubs and initiatives such as Ping! are increasing the number of permanent table tennis tables in public spaces and take up of the game.
Brighton Table Tennis Club is setting up a new Disability Session on Monday evenings 7-10pm at the Brighton Youth Centre, 64 Edward Street, BN2 0JR.
