Shuffle Bar & Restaurant
Brighton is a hotbed for new bars and restaurants springing up, some disappear as quickly as they have arrived and others have longevity. With the regeneration of London Road and the revamp of the Level, the whole area around the bottom of the North Laine is fast becoming the latest hotspot.
So what’s different about Shuffle? The press release promised cocktails (another Brighton favourite, with many new cocktail bars opening) and the chance for us, the customer to choose our own soundtrack. How? I wondered…
Friday night, 7pm and York Place is buzzing with cool kids. My first impression of Shuffle was it’s much more spacious inside then it appears from the front. The decor is uncluttered and they’ve got the lighting just right – thankfully not too dark. There’s a lot of clever design in the fittings – tables for two that swing round to make larger tables to accommodate bigger groups eating together, a set of lockers so you can put away your bulky coats and bags, and of course the chance to choose the music.
Here’s the clever bit: log onto Shuffle’s Wifi via your smartphone and click into the playlist – choose your tune and wait until it’s next on the list. Oooh what fun! It’s like karaoke without the tuneless singing along!
Scanning the cocktail list, there’s a great choice, but not too many to make it overwhelming, old favourites and new concoctions – Spicy Poo, anyone? The cocktails are incredibly well priced plus with happy hour weekdays until 8pm and weekends until 7pm, it’s fantastic value! The enthusiastic and friendly barman whizzed up our cocktails in a jiffy, they tasted as good as they looked. Shuffle is also a restaurant and we heartily tucked in to the nibbles on offer – I must say the garlicky chips were divine and I do love a chip!
With a fully decked terrace at the rear, I can see this being very popular in the summer. I certainly give this the thumbs up and look forward to returning very soon.
