CALL FOR  PROPOSALS

WHAT

PAVEMENT is a six-month programme for which Permanent is inviting artists to propose works for exhibition in its window space. Proposals can be made for the exhibition of existing or new works.

Each selected artist/artist group will have their work exhibited for six-weeks and will have a profile on the Permanent website. Exhibitions will be primarily viewed from the street (Bedford Place) or by appointment. Each new exhibition will be launched with a preview event.

Permanent is a not-for-profit organisation that supports artists to realise experimental exhibitions of contemporary art. In addition to producing exhibitions at our base at 20 Bedford Place, Brighton, Permanent also organises satellite exhibitions with partner venues within the city of Brighton and Hove.

ELIGIBILITY

PAVEMENT is open to individuals and groups of all ages, at any stage of their career and based anywhere in the world.

This is an unfunded project: to participate selected artists or artist groups will need to be able to cover all the transportation, travel or materials costs involved in realising their proposal.

Painting and Drawing at Charleston in the Winter
Charleston welcomes artist Tom Benjamin to Charleston. Inspired by Charleston’s creative heritage, and artists such as Ravilious who drew on the area’s outstanding beauty, Tom will be tutoring a small group in a variety of media. The course will  include the opportunity to draw from still lifes, paint in the Charleston Garden and draw in the house itself. Winter at Charleston is a unique experience which few people have the chance to enjoy, making it a very special setting for this ‘eight week’ short course.

£150, includes tea, coffee and pastries

Spaces are limited to 15 guests, to book a place please call 01323 811626  •  www.charleston.org.uk

Ice Rink at Brighton Royal Pavilion

November 26, 2010toJanuary 16, 2011

Brighton get your skates on - Royal Pavilion Gardens hosts an outdoor ice rink.

Running until late January, the ice rink will be the size of three tennis courts to accommodate up to 200 skaters at any one time. Open from 10am to 10.15pm the rink is destined to become a focal point of the city around the festive season.
Brighton’s popular Due South restaurant will run a 200 seat bar and eatery, alongside a floodlit viewing area and public toilet facilities.
Around 130 seasonal jobs will be created in roles such as skating marshals, skate loans and catering.
Planning committee chairman Councillor Lynda Hyde said:  “We’ve put in strict conditions to ensure the temporary buildings are removed and the grounds perfectly reinstated.  There are also measures to control noise, opening hours, trees and the Pavilion itself.
“I feel this will be a very popular attraction, helping bring people to the city at a key time for our traders.  It also provides us with an income to help maintain the Royal Pavilion.  Generally it’s felt the advantages outweigh the disadvantage of the Pavilion being slightly obscured from view for a while.”

Royal Pavilion Ice Rink tickets cost from £9.50-£11 for adults and from £6.50-£7.50 for children under 12 and the one-hour skate times run from 10am to 10.15pm daily, on sale online at www.ticketmaster.co.uk or by calling 0844 847 2352.
