Brighton’s Biggest Model Search: The Grand Final

November 13, 2010
12:00 pmto4:30 pm

The South East’s biggest model search, the Face of Brighton culminates in the competition’s Grand Final event this weekend when the 12 local finalists will battle it out on the catwalk to be crowned ‘Face of Brighton’ and scoop a prestigious contract with Models 1.

An afternoon of entertainment on Saturday 13th November will see DJs, singers and dancers wow the crowds at Churchill Square Shopping Centre before the Face of Brighton’s finalists strut their stuff in front of Models 1 management in a runway spectacular at 3pm, sporting the hottest fashions from Churchill Square’s major High Street brands including; Dorothy Perkins, Jane Norman, Zara and Lipsy, to name but a few.

The event is an afternoon of fun and fashion frolics and is split into three shows as follows:
1st Show: 12pm-12.30pm
2nd Show: 1pm-1.30pm
Grand Final Show: 3pm-4.30pm

The final six boys and six girls have been selected from the hundreds of hopefuls who entered this year’s Face of Brighton competition, all hoping to catch the eye of Europe’s largest modelling agency, Models 1.

Models 1 is home to some of the world’s most famous faces including Agyness Deyn and Yasmin Le Bon, providing the winner of Face of Brighton with the ultimate springboard to an international modelling career.

Event organiser Sarah Grigg comments: “This year’s competition is bigger and better than ever.  We’ve been inundated with entries, all of an incredibly high standard – so much so that the Models 1 scouts decided to put 12 boys and girls through to the Final in place of the planned ten!

“Last year’s male winner has gone on to model for Calvin Klein, so our finalists are fighting it out for a truly unique opportunity – this city really could produce the face of the future.”
Churchill Square Centre Director, Sam Eastwood comments: “The Face of Brighton Grand Final will be truly spectacular – in addition to the centrepiece runway battle, Churchill Square’s crowd will be treated to an afternoon of entertainment from Brighton’s hottest dancing and singing acts, as well as fashion shows featuring top High Street names including Zara, Aldo, Lipsy, River Island and USC.

Brighton is full to the brim with talent and Saturday’s Grand Final will really showcase everything the city has to boast about, as well as being a fantastic day out.”

A Dark Day in Paradise – The Royal Pavilion

November 9, 2010toJanuary 16, 2011

An installation by Clare Twomey for Museumaker

Thousands of black ceramic butterflies have been installed in the Royal Pavilion by artist Clare Twomey. The butterflies swarm in the Banqueting Room, the Great Kitchen and the Entrance Hall, and flutter darkly throughout the ground floor of the palace.  The work is a response to the excesses of the building, with the butterflies symbolising the transience of life and the vanity of earthly things.  They are both beautiful and menacing, an invitation for visitors to reflect on the history of the building and to draw contemporary parallels.

Clare Twomey is a British ceramicist/artist who works with clay in large-scale installations, sculpture and site-specific works.  She has exhibited at Tate, Victoria & Albert Museum, Crafts Council and the Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto, Japan.
