Coast to Coast cruises into Brighton

New American restaurant and bar, Coast to Coast welcomed Brighton businesses at its exclusive launch party on Thursday 24th November, where they enjoyed an evening of complimentary food and drink, as well as swinging Motown music.

The evening was compéred by local celebrity DJ, Guy Lloyd from Juice 107.2, with entertainment provided by Motown band, Alison & the Earthquakes, roller skating ladies and basketball freestyler, Andrew Wilding, who showed off his impressive skills with a basketball.  Guests included current and former Brighton and Hove Albion players, Craig-Mackail-Smith and Kerry Mayo as well as members of Sussex County Cricket Club.

To celebrate the official opening of the restaurant, freestyle basketballer, Andrew, and the Coast to Coast roller girls were out and about cruising Brighton city centre on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th, in an American style Airstream, performing for enthralled audiences.

Motown band Alison & the Earthquakes also provided entertainment for shoppers alike, courtesy of Coast to Coast, when they performed at Asda in Brighton Marina, on Saturday 26th.

Located at Brighton Marina, Coast to Coast restaurant and bar offers an authentic flavour of the USA.  Guests will experience a gastronomic adventure from east to west coast America, with dishes and cocktails inspired by recipes from across the continent including Aberdeen Angus burgers, Chicago style deep dish pizzas, sizzling fajitas, seafood and steaks, as well as mouthwatering dessert.  Authentic décor completes the experience with leather booth-seating, dark wood tables, maps of the Lincoln Highway and classic US memorabilia on the walls.

In addition to the food, guests can look forward to sampling the wide range of American cocktails, mocktails and beers, served up by attentive bartenders who have been personally trained by award winning mixologist, Andy Pearson.

Restaurant Manager, Andrew Dempster comments: “The launch event went exceptionally well and we were really pleased to be able to show the local business people of Brighton what Coast to Coast is all about.  We really hope that by offering a truly authentic experience word will spread fast and we can look forward to welcoming local residents and visitors to our restaurant.”

Churchill Square’s Mothercare announces baby name winner

To celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary, Churchill Square’s Mothercare store ran a competition to find out what inspired mothers and fathers of Brighton to name their children, for a chance to win £50 worth of shopping vouchers to spend in store.
With Victoria Beckham naming her latest arrival after her favourite author, Harper Lee, the Brighton Mothercare store wanted to find out the latest trends for baby names in Brighton.
The competition saw a range of answers including:
‘I’m due in January and we are calling him Jacob because he will be our little cracker just after Christmas.’
and
‘We named our two girls Lily Rose and Fern as my husband is a gardener and loves flowers.’
But the lucky winner was Rachel Dann from Eastbourne, East Sussex, who named her daughter ‘Marley’ after Reggae Legend Bob Marley.

Rachel said: “I was thrilled to have won the competition. Both Marley and I are really excited to collect the voucher! I have been following the competition on Twitter and there are some really unusual names at the moment and it has been great to see why people name their children.”
Established as the number one retailer for mums to be and parents alike, Mothercare offers a wide selection of everything needed for parents to be, newborns and young children.

Store Supervisor, Denise Kitson at Churchill Square Mothercare, said: “We thought it would be fun to ask our customers what inspired them to choose their baby’s name. What to call your new bundle of joy is always the main topic of conversation for new parents as this competition has demonstrated!”
Churchill Square Centre Director, Tina Dallorzo added: “This has been a really fun competition for the store. There has been a great response and it’s clear that Brighton parents like to make their children stand out from the crowd with a range of unusual names!”

Artists’ Open Houses

December 3, 2011toDecember 4, 2011
December 10, 2011toDecember 11, 2011

Over 60 houses and studios will open during three weekends in Brighton & Hove, and further afield in Newhaven and Ditchling.

Browsing in the Artists’ Open Houses, with a glass of mulled wine, to find that special gift that doesn’t cost the earth, signals the start of the festive calendar.

With so many gifted artists and makers in this area, the range of work for sale is most impressive – a microcosm of British talent. Over the years, visitors and purchasers have come to know that high quality gifts can be bought in interesting artists’ houses and studios – and without the gallery mark up. There is something to suit every purse – and there is no pressure to buy. There are paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, textiles, designer hats, scarves and throws, lighting, home furnishings, decorations, hampers of homemade Christmas fare – and much more.

Christmas and the Chestnut Tree House Giving Tree in Churchill Square – photos Julia Claxton

The Chestnut Tree  House Giving Tree was officially opened by the Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Anne Meadows and Ambrose Harcourt, Patron of Chestnut Tree House at Churchill Square Shopping Centre today. Located in the Lower Mall the tree is covered in gift tags containing Christmas wishes from children who use the services at the hospice.
Brighton shoppers are asked to remember the true spirit of Christmas and help make children’s wishes come true. People are asked to select a tag from the tree and pick up an extra present as they purchase gifts for their loved ones. The Giving Tree will be located in the Centre until 23rd December and all gifts will then be taken to Chestnut Tree House in time for Christmas Day.

If you are out shopping for your own children in Churchill Square, take advantage of some of the 3 for 2 and other offers in stores like Early Learning Centre and Mothercare and you could make a less advantaged child’s wish come true for less than you think.
